European Legislation in force: Regulation (EC) no. 2003/2003
The fertilizers sector is currently governed by regulation (EC) no. 2003/2003 of the European Parliament and the Council of 13th October 2003, which is applicable to the Member States of the EC.
This regulation includes a list of EC fertilizers in annex I as well as the new list of authorized chelating and complexing organic agents for micronutrients. The inclusion of the ortho-para isomer of the EDDHA chelating agent - (o, p) - Ácido etilendiamino-N-(o-hidroxifenilacético)-N’-(p-hidroxifenilacético) (o, p-EDDHA) - should be noted.
The identification and quantification of these chelating agents will be made in accordance with European standard EN 13368 (parts 1 and 2).
This new piece of legislation pays special attention to sample taking and analysing methods (Annex IV) in order to officially control compliance with the requirements of these Regulations regarding the quality and composition of the fertilizers.
Finally, the preparation of the list of organic chelating agents remains pending.
