Ultraferro® and Ultraferro® + Humical® on roses: Two years of success - Agrotécnica del Sur, Spain -
The following trial carried out in southern Spain for two consecutive years by the “Centro Agrotécnica del Sur”, assessed the effectiveness of Ultraferro and Ultraferro + Humical on roses in terms of the percentage of leaves with symptoms of iron chlorosis, according to the Towsend-Heuberger Method.
Figures 1 and 2 show that Ultraferro, either by itself or combined with Humical, performed better in terms of effectiveness against iron chlorosis than Fe-EDDHMA and Fe-EDDHSA chelates, and also against one of the standard EDDHA chelates in the market.
It is worth noting that the combination of Ultraferro and Humical, a product containing humic acids and EDTA-Ca, notably improves iron absorption and, therefore, the effectiveness of Ultraferro. The combined application of both products is particularly recommended on roses, and in this trial proved that yield and quality increased considerably compared with other iron chelates on the market. Furthermore, including Humical in the nutritional program ensures a better root system formation.
Trial Conditions: • Research centre: Agrotécnica del Sur • Date: 2005 & 2006 • Location: Cadiz (Spain) • Crop: Rose • Variety: Gran Gala • Dosage: Weekly applications of 1.25 kg/ha of iron chelate; and 1,25 kg/ha of Ultraferro + 5 l/ha of Humical. • Application system: Drip irrigation • Parameters assessed: Percentage of iron chlorosis on the leaves; percentage of infestation (Towsend-Heuberger); efficacy (Abbot); yield and quality.
